Top Ten Books I'm Looking Forward to in 2015

I've been tweaking my TBR list and getting super-excited about the year ahead.

New Releases
1. A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab
An adult book about an ambassador and black-market smuggler who can travel among 4 parallel Londons, at least one of which is magical. Loved her previous book, Vicious.

2. Fairest by Marissa Meyer
A Lunar Chronicles prequel that tells Levana's backstory. Who's the fairest of the land?

3. The Black Reckoning by John Stephens
The final book in the Books of Beginning trilogy. I love the magic system in these books. The elves and dwarfs are also awesome. But I really really love listening to Jim Dale narrate the audiobooks. The Black Reckoning is long awaited!

4. Smek for President by Adam Rex
The follow-up book to the outstanding humorous sci-fi novel, The True Meaning of Smekday.

5. Cakes in Space by Philip Reeve and Sarah McIntyre
Last year, this duo published a terrific and fun middle grade novel called Oliver and the Seawigs. Philip Reeve told a creative yarn, and it paired perfectly with Sarah McIntyre's illustrations. Their second book, Cakes in Space, is already out in the UK, but the US version isn't released until the spring.

6. Breaking Sky by Cory McCarthy
18392481
A future Cold War, where teens are trained to be elite fighter pilots on experimental jets. Cool!

7. The Inquisitor's Mark by Dianne Salerni
This is the sequel to 2014's outstanding middle grade book, The Eighth Day. The books follow characters with bloodlines to King Arthur, Merlin, and other roundtable figures. These characters either exist only on a secret 8th day of the week, or can exist in all 8 days. Fascinating!

Already Released, but Sitting on My Shelf
1. Prince of Thorns by Mark Lawrence
A super-dark epic fantasy with stellar reviews.

2. We Are Not Eaten by Yaks by C. Alexander London
A ridiculous adventure story. I'm hoping it's everything I was expecting from The Genius Files.

3. Airborn by Kenneth Oppel
Air pirates! This book has been on my list for years, but a former student recently finished it and recommended it to me, so it's moving up near the top of my list.

  1. I'm super excited for THE INQUISITOR'S MARK and FAIREST. I hadn't heard of BREAKING SKY, but it sounds like a cool one. I'll have to keep my eye out for it.
