The Incredible Book Eating Boy by Oliver Jeffers

Our header says "Two teachers who eat books." Where did that particular verb come from? It came from one of our favorite picture books, The Incredible Book Eating Boy by Oliver Jeffers, who also illustrated The Boy Who Swam With Piranhas.

Henry loves books. But he doesn't read them, he eats them.

And the more books Henry eats, the smarter he gets. He learns everything in the books just by eating them!

He gets really smart and everything is awesome!

Until something goes wrong. His brain gets all jumbled. He can't get anything right!

How can Henry enjoy books, and get smarter, without actually eating the books? I bet you have an idea!

I read this book to my class every year because it is such a fun way to think about reading. I also learned the The Incredible Book Eating Boy has actually been adapted for the stage. Fun!
