It's Monday! Rangers, Zoom, Alexandria, Darkness

It's time for our weekly post for the fabulous meme - It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (Picture books to YA) sponsored by Teach Mentor Texts. Here we go:
Amanda is reading 2 books:

* So today I finished Ranger's Apprentice 1: The Ruins of Gorlan by John Flanagan. I really really really LOVED it! The review is forthcoming.
After finishing Ranger's Apprentice this afternoon, I started The Secret of Zoom by Lynne Jonell. I'm only 14 pages in so I can't say much, but there's some sort of scientist's laboratory, a secret tunnel, and a strange orphanage. I chose it from my long TBR list because I'm trying to figure out if this book is science fiction or fantasy.

* On the first of every month I download a new free book from the Kindle Owners' Lending Library. There are a lot of great choices, mostly from self-published ebook authors. This month I chose Alexandria by John Kladen. This is a post-apocalyptic YA novel with an interesting cult twist. I am currently 10% of the way and I'm TOTALLY FLOORED! There's been some crazy unexpected happenings and I'm definitely intrigued.

Ashley is reading 1 book:
I've been really looking forward to Ashley's take on this book: Dark Life by Kat Falls is about a future world where large portions of the U.S. have been swallowed up by rising waters. Now an entire society has emerged in the ocean. Now the settlers of this ocean frontier are being attacked by bandits and must find a way to defend themselves.

What are you reading??

  2. The John Flanagan books are so good. A lot of my students who like that series also like the Delaney LAST Apprentice books, which are a bit darker.
